This is a mound of sumi ink and the grave of Kagetoki Kajiwara at Manpukuji Temple (Soto Zen) in Minami-Magome, Ota-ku, Tokyo.
The word "sumi" is written and read as "surusumi".
It is a legendary horse that appeared in the Battle of Ujigawa, fought between Yoshinaka Kiso and Yoshitsune Minamoto. It featured Kagesuki, the son of Kajiwara Kagetoki, who competed with Sasaki Takatsuna for the lead in crossing the Uji River rapids.
The nearby Manpukuji Temple, said to have been built in the Kamakura period (1185-1333), has a tomb said to belong to Kajiwara Kagetoki and a statue of his famous horse, Maboku, which his son Kageki rode.
The temple is said to have been built in the Kamakura period.
