【今回訪れた場所】
シリア北東部
現地取材報告映像『Voice of People』、今回は昨年10月末に取材したシリア北東部の様子です。
シリア北東部にはクルド人を主体とした事実上の自治区があり、その軍事組織であるＳＤＦ（シリア民主軍）やＹＰＧ（クルド人民防衛隊）は、アメリカ軍と共に対ＩＳ（過激派勢力「イスラム国」）戦の矢面に立ってきました。
ところが昨年（2019年）10月初頭、アメリカが同地域からの撤退を宣言すると、その瞬間を待っていたかのようにトルコ軍が国境を越えシリア北東部へ侵攻しました。
トルコのエルドアン大統領は、ＳＤＦ，ＹＰＧを、自国内で闘争を続けるＰＫＫ（クルディスタン労働者党）と同系列の「テロリスト集団」だと見做し、その掃討の後、同地に「安全地帯」を築くと宣言。
しかし実際に現地へ足を運んでみると、その犠牲となっているのは普通に生活を営む一般市民が大多数でした。怪我を負い、命を落とし、故郷を追われ、明日に不安を抱く人々...。
「私たちはテロリストではない、ただ平和に暮らしたいだけなんです」と、避難生活を続けるムディナさんは言います。
いったい「テロリスト」とは誰のことなのか。
なぜ戦争はいつまでも終わらないのか。
現地の人々の声から考えます。

This interview report was filmed in October 2019.
In Northeastern Syria, there is an autonomous regime led by the Kurds. Together with the U.S. Military, the military organizations SDF (Syrian Democratic Force) and YPG (People’s Protection Units) have fought against ISIS (Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant).
However early October last year (2019), the United States declared to withdraw from the region. As if it was waiting for this moment, the Turkish military crossed its border and invaded Northeastern Syria.
President Erdoğan of Turkey views SDF, YPG, and PKK (the Kurdish Labor Party) as terrorist organizations. After cleaning up, he declared build a “safe zone” in the region.
However, in reality when we visited, there were so many civilians who were being sacrificed. Some were injured, some lost their lives, some lost their home, and everyone is worried about the uncertain future.
“We are not terrorists. We just want to live peacefully,” says Mudina, a refugee.
What defines a “terrorist”?
Why does the war never end?
We must think about these questions after hearing the people’s voices.
